Westinghouse Nuclear Services Announces Integration Actions;Company
to Maintain All Product Lines, Technologies and Services;Moves to
Reduce Costs, Improve Efficiency With Minimal Employment Impact
PITTSBURGH, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Company
today announced that it would consolidate its controlled radiological
sites in Chattanooga, Tenn., Spartanburg, S.C., and Windsor, Conn.,
into an existing site in Madison, Pa.
This move, and others described below, is designed to reduce costs
and improve operating efficiencies throughout the company's nuclear
field services, engineering and repair and replacement services
businesses. Additionally, Westinghouse said the consolidation actions
in these areas would result in the loss over the next 18 months of
about 60 of the Company's 2,000 Nuclear Services jobs in the United
States and four positions in Europe. (Worldwide, Westinghouse employs
approximately 9,300).
In the U.S., Westinghouse announced that it would:
-- Consolidate the radiological shop services, equipment, maintenance
and
storage areas now operating at service centers in Windsor,
Spartanburg and Chattanooga into an existing service center and
controlled radiological area in Madison, Pa.
-- Consolidate the nuclear repair and replacement activities now in
Windsor into an existing and similar facility in Cheswick, Pa.
-- Establish a nuclear field services testing, training and
qualification
center in the Windsor area.
-- Maintain a regional presence for non-radiological field service
activities in Spartanburg and Chattanooga.
-- Maintain the existing engineering services capabilities in
Chattanooga
and Windsor.
-- Transfer the radiological materials capability now at Windsor to
an
existing laboratory at the Westinghouse Science and Technology
Department in Churchill, Pa.
In Europe, the company announced that it would transfer the
radiological storage activities now located in Ladenburg, Germany to
an existing site in Nivelles, Belgium.
Charles W. Pryor, Jr., president and CEO of Westinghouse, said the
consolidation actions announced today will enable Westinghouse to
maintain all existing product lines and technologies. "The end
result of these actions will be a more efficient, cost effective and
integrated services operation that will be better equipped than ever
to serve our U.S. and European customers," he said. "We are
eliminating redundancies while leveraging the best practices and
technologies found within each of our existing locations.
Additionally, we will maintain significant regional engineering and
field services capabilities."
