The odd thing about Rosalie Bertell is that she really is (or was) a
first-rate investigator and statistician. She gave a talk about the
Tri-State Leukemia Study to one of my classes at WWU in the late 1970s, and
she was interesting and lucid and there was none of this exaggeration that I
now see in her publications and speeches. In fact, it was from her that I
learned that a major predisposer (if that's a word) to cancer is age
itself -- cancer is a disease of old age.
