          I'm not a physician so I will not attempt an answer.  For research 
          uses each protocol is reviewed on it's own merits so this is a 
          case by case determination.  Some I have seen are related to 
          diabetes, fat content/retention, dietary effects on bone minerals 
          or total body composition, effects of gene-therapy on bone mineral 
          content and/or total body content.
          
          I suggest you discuss this with your endocrinologists.
