RE: ultrasonics safety materials?

Health Canada has a document (in PDF format) on a web site:

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ehp/ehd/catalogue/rpb.htm

Look for:

Safety Code 24. Guidelines for the Safe Use of Ultrasound: Part II -
Industrial and Commercial Applications, 1991, 44 p.

Provides guidance on the safe use of ultrasound in commercial and industrial
applications. the recommended safety procedures and protective measures are
based upon information provided here on the health effects of both contact
and airborne ultrasound exposure.

You need to be more specific about the ultrasonic
intensities and frequencies you use in your
experiment.

To the best of my knowledge, there hasn't been much
published on the subject of protection against
high-intensity ultrasonic waves, but some safety
guidelines do exist.
I know that Canada and the US have published few
protection standards but I don't have the references
readily available.

Since you live in Atlanta, Georgia Tech (Mechanical
Engineering Dept.) would be a good place to find what
you need.

You can also dig out some information in the NIOSH
site (search for ultrasound or ultrasonics):
