Health Physicist

The University of Houston is seeking candidates for the position of Health
Physicist (HP) to support the Radiation Safety Program.  The HP is
responsible for the x-ray and laser safety programs within the Radiation
Safety Program with primary duties of routine inspections of lasers and
x-ray machines.  The HP also maintains the inventory of other radiation
producing devices and performs inspections as required.  The HP is required
to maintain compliance with the Texas Department of Health Bureau of
Radiation Control regulations and keep detailed health physics records.

The HP consults with Principal Investigators on radiation safety matters
and supports the radioactive waste program.  The HP responds and
investigates radiation incidents and spills; and participates in the
Departmental On-Call.  The HP supports radiation safety training and the
Controlled Substances and Dangerous Drugs Program.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field or
equivalent experience and one year of directly job-related experience.
In-depth knowledge of state and federal radiation regulations is desired.
Computer competence with PCs is required.  Moderate walking and lifting of
up to 50 pounds is a part of the job.  The starting salary is from $31,550
to $35,200 depending on qualifications.
