Australian Fed Govt rejects claims over nuclear plant operator
  
The Federal Government has dismissed as baseless, allegations that  
the Argentine company contracted to build the new Sydney nuclear  
reactor engaged in illegal activity. 

Newspaper reports alleged INVAP was facing court proceedings for  
running illegal tests of a new reactor, and that the company was in  
financial trouble before gaining the Lucas Heights' contract. 

But the Industry Minister, Nick Minchin, says the accusations by  
environmental activist Raul Montenegro are false. 

"We have had advice both from the company and from the Argentine  
Government that they are baseless, that in fact Dr Montenegro made  
the allegations back in 1998 and sought to have them heard through  
the judicial system in Argentina and they were dismissed by a  
federal government in September of 1998," he said.
