Re: Special handling of individuals with lifetime dose greaterthan age
This story is further complicated if you take into consideration DOE, the Navy, and OSHA requirements. 29CFR 1910.1096(b)(2)(ii) Still states:
The dose to the whole body, when added to the accumulated occupational dose to the whole body, shall not exceed 5 (N-18) rems, where "N" equals the individual's age in years at his last birthday; and ...
However, this clearly does not apply to NRC licenced facilities...

Angel,
Prior to January 1994, the occupational limits were, for an
individual with a completed NRC Form 4, 3 rem/qtr. whole body, as
long as the individual's PAD was < 5 (N-18) where N was the
individual's current age.
After 1994, the only limit was the individual must be < 5 rem TEDE
each ands every year (previous dose does not affect the individual's
ability to receive up to the 5 rem TEDE each year) ... unless a PSE
was imposed. However, the PSE has never been used by any US
commercial nuclear plant, nor will it most likely ever occur.
