Explanation for hormesis? -Reply (psychosomatic cancers?)

Hypothesis: A psychological/psychiatric condition could be paralleled by an 
altered lifestyle that enhances risks of getting cancers.

I imagine that this could be very difficult if not impossible to study 
epidemiologically. First because of a problem to find appropropriate 
controls and large enough study groups. Second because the medical problem 
would need to be specified (go to any medical textbook for an overview - it 
is not trivial - how is smoking or eating habits related to various forms of 
depressions as opposed to neurotic behavior for instance?). Many PhDs could 
be produced but the ultimate confusion may only end on a higher level - 
especially after massmedial get involved.
