RE: double badging?



I agree with Ed completely. If the dose is primarily to the 
extremity, issue a ring dosimeter. being a single chip, you'd have to 
determine the specific source factor to be used as a calibration 
factor. Depending on the ring dosimeter, choosing a Cs-137 
calibration, a specific beta calibration or a specific x-ray 
calibration factor should not vary significantly. This is again based 
on the design of the ring. If you are interested in breaking down the 
extremity dose more, use a wrist badge with multiple TL elements with 
varying filter thickness, such as you do for whole body monitoring. 
The difference with the wrist badge is that only SDE should be 
reported.

If the dose is primarily measured by whole body dosimeters, make sure 
that the dosimeter can respond to x-ray, gamma and beta. There should 
be no reason why separate badges need be worn for different sources. 
The TL (or film badge) is quite capable of measuring all radiation 
types, either separately or in an area where there are mixtures.
