Re: Sr-90 questions

Many people use a depleted uranium slab for determining ion chamber beta
correction factors during calibration.  The beta spectrum coming from the
slab has many emssions and with a high average energy.  The Sr-90 beta
emission spectrum is the best single isotope for approximating the average
energy of depleted uranium.  The large amount of energy/uCi means that higher
ranges of ion chambers can be soruce checks with moderate curie amounts.
There are existing source check jigs that can range from 2 - 35000 mR/hr with
a single source and multiple filters.
