Comments to proposed new ICRP Recommendations
WUNUC Conference 28-29 June 2001 in Dublin, Ireland
- An electronic overhead was presented by Dr Lars Persson as comments to
Professor R Clarke´s, President of ICRP, lecture 29 June: Changing philosophy
in ICRP; the evolution of protection ethics and principles.
o A comprehensive philosophy is needed for radiation protection that can
answer all questions posed by the health physicists
o Collective doses must thus remain also in the future as a concept in
order to protect man from exposures originating from many different radiation
sources
o ICRP 60 recommendations have good acceptance and are implemented all over
the world
o ICRP should spell out which ethical values it follows
o Compensation to workers: the CWD should work
o The workers´ right to know must be guaranteed
o "No radiation without representation"
- The comments so presented lead to one remark by Clarke: There is not yet
any acceptance of the ICRP 60 recommendations in USA (to be checked).
Colleagues,
Pls send your comments to me: lasseper@aol.com
The proposed new Recommendations from ICRP are published in Journal of
Radiological Protection latest circulated issue as a Memorandum. Use for
example the seach engine www.google.com to find the article in the journal.
Pls tell me if NCRP or any other US Government organisation has agreed to
ICRP 60 Recommendations from 1990.
See also the English website of SSI: www.ssi.se for a new report on ethics in
