Radioactivity in Building Materials
Hello:
Can anyone direct me to any limits on radioactivity in the U.S. or Europe,
specifically for naturally occurring radionuclides. Relative to Europe, I
have an interim report from the Health Council of the Netherlands, but it
is dated (1985). It gives lower limits (corresponding to 0.1 mSv/y) for
combined (Ra-226+ Th-232) of 100 Bq/kg for concrete, 150 Bq/kg for plaster
slabs, and 200 Bq/kg for plasterboard.
Are there "accepted" (by regulatory agencies such as the EPA) house models
(i.e. dimensions, ventilation rate, etc.) for estimating these values? (I
am familiar with UNSCEAR 2000.) Given the model, I can calculate the radon
and gamma doses.
(I have also posted a similar message to the NORM-TENORM site.)
Thanks.
