Re: Risk Communication/Wind Power/LOCA/LOBA Accidents
There is a comprehensive review of wind power generation safety and
environmental impacts here:
http://externe.jrc.es/Norway+Wind.htm
Does any one know of an analysis of Nuclear power impacts that covers
the entire cycle including materials, construction, fuel processing,
operation, decommissioning etc.?
Just a small part of the paper:
=================SNIP==========
For occupational health impacts of turbine manufacturing we have used
the accident rates of the Danish windmill industry reported in the
Danish National Implementation report. They report 0.12 accidents per MW
for 1995. 10 % are major accidents and 90 % minor accidents. There were
no fatal accidents. With a 2.2 MW wind farm there are 0.0264 major
accidents and 0.2376 minor accidents, annually. Major and minor
accidents are valued at 95,000 and 6,970 ECU, respectively. Total costs
of workers accidents can then be estimated at 4,164 ECU. Assuming 20
years life time of the wind turbines, and then dividing the annual cost
by the average annual electricity production of 5.8 GWh, we get an
annual average accident cost of which is 0.0359 mECU/kWh Occupational
accidents in upstream materials processing industries (glass, steel,
copper and cement) are not included in this number.
