RE: Edward Radford (1922-2001)
Radford gained a bit of notoriety in the uranium mining fraternity for his
(I think, flawed) epidemiology studies of lung cancer rates in swedish
underground iron ore miners vis-à-vis their radon daughter exposures. I
remember a confrontation at the 1981 Colorado Radiation in Mining Conference
between him and AECB uranium mine regulator and ex-miner Al Dory, in which
it became apparent that Radford had ignored some basic epidemiological
requirements and had probably purposely set out to get his desired
outcome.....

The October 22, 2001, edition of the New York Times, page A19, ran
an
obituary notice concerning the death on October 12 of Edward P.
Radford,
MD. I believe that he was the controversial Chair of the BEIR III
committee
who insisted that a linear dose-response relationship described the
low-dose atomic bomb survivor cancer-risk data even though others on
that
committee disagreed.
