Shipping of radioactive mineral

Greetings All,

I am going to prepare the paperwork needed to ship the radioactive mineral

specimen described in the article on page S67 of this month's Operational

Radiation Safety supplement to Health Physics.

The museum-quality specimen of the mineral Novacekite contains about 1.48 MBq

(40 uCi) of natural Uranium in equilibrium with members of its decay series.

Would someone be kind enough to advise me of the current language required on

a radioactive material shipping form for an object like this? Although it

sold for $82,000 at Sotheby's, it is simply a naturally mined rock that has

had no processing or other enhancements. I think that it is "source material"

but I defer to the greater expertise of some of you on the list to help me

get it right.

You may reply to me off-list if you think (as I do) that the information I'm

requesting will not be particularly useful to most of our colleagues.

Thanks for your help.
