Subject: radon - documentation of exposure histories for Iowa study
Jim Muckerheide,
Ray Johnson may not be an epidemiologist, but the point was that Ray knows a
few things about radon exposure assessment. As far as Phillipe Dupont, he
is a frequent poster of emails on your Radiation and Science listserv and an
known anti LNT proponent. <snip>
A "known anti LNT proponent"? Do you have a list or something? Just because Phillipe brings more experience than most to the table regarding miner exposures which happen to contradict LNT, he's cast aside because he posts to the RSH list? VERY STRONG ARGUMENT! .... or not.
<snip> .... But, the Iowa study did find an association so therefore the sample size was of sufficient power to detect an association. <snip>
Huh? In computer programming, that kind of logic is called a "do-loop." I think you need to re-read your "statistical power" text book. The very small numbers of this study limit its power.
<snip>... The latest item you have tried to mislead people with is
that the Iowa Study did not obtain individual exposure histories for each
subject. Your insistence is that because someone lives in Iowa, that have to
be exposed to high radon levels. <snip>
In actuality, much of the "meat and potatoes" of the IRLCS number crunching is handled by the "available elsewhere" clause. Perhaps, Dr. Field and his co-authors would be kind enough to make ALL of the THEIR referenced papers used to support their conclusions available on THEIR IRLCS website.
Is that possible?

Michael
