News on BNL Deer
Dear colleagues,
A few days ago I mentioned here an IAEA document, "Dosimetric and medical
aspects of the Radiological accident in Goiania,
1987", the IAEA-TECDOC 1009 - June 1998.
Goiania was the most important Laboratory for many studies involving
Cs-137, unique radionuclide in this radiological accident.
A capsule containing 50.9 TBq (1375 Ci) was dismantled, and besides de
fatalities, injuries in many people, also was
cause of contamination of Central part of Goiania, a city of one million
inhabitants. A complete internal dosimetry study was conducted and for ten
years, the patients (victims) have been examined by physicians.
To those interested to study interternally contamination with radiocesium I
do believe this TECDOC is a practical guide
in the correct direction. Write to the IAEA Division of Public Information,
generally TECDOC can be
provided free of charge. e-mail official.mail@iaea.org
