Radiation Safety Officer #00437

Old Dominion University is currently recruiting for the position of

Radiation Safety Officer.  Responsibilities include oversight of all

activities involving radioactive material, radiation producing machines and

lasers, and emergency response at Old Dominion University.   The University

holds a Broad Scope Type A license.  Responsibilities include inspections,

surveys, and routine monitoring of laboratories using radioactive material

and/or radiation producing machines in accordance with the U.S. Nuclear

Regulatory Commission (NRC) and State of Virginia regulations.  The

incumbent shall also supervise and record the receipt and disposal of

radioactive material and radioactive waste, maintain accurate inventory of

radioactive material, maintain records dealing with the use and disposal of

radioactive materials in accordance with the U.S. NRC and state

regulations, maintain dosimetry records, and conduct training for users of

radioactive material, radiation producing machines and lasers as well as

ancillary personnel at the University.  This position requires as a minimum

a college degree at the bachelor level in radiation science, health

physics, industrial hygiene, safety or a related scientific field and one

year of graduate work in health physics or equivalent combination of

training and experience, and at least four years of supervisory experience

in a radiation safety program of broad scope.  The incumbent will be

required to establish and maintain effective work relationships with staff,

faculty and students, University officials, and the general public.

Salary range is $34,910 - $45,606.  Closing date for applications is March
