There are two jobs available at Georgetown University Hospital. The

Nuclear Medicine
(including PET and radiopharmaceutical therapy), Radiation Oncology
(including a
CyberKnife, brachytherapy, and intravascular brachytherapy), Radiology,
and Research. The
following challenging career opportunities are available for the
development a new
radiation safety department for the hospital's broad scope license:
RADIATION SAFETY ASSISTANT
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for hospital dosimetry program
Quality assurance testing on nuclear medicine instruments
Quarterly auditing of areas that use radioactive material and
radiation-producing
equipment
Assisting the RSO in the development and implementation of policies
and procedures
Conducting radiation safety training to occupational and
nonoccupational hospital
employees
Provide support to brachytherapy and radiopharmaceutical therapy
procedures.
Assists in radiology equipment quality assurance including performing
x-ray machine
surveys and scatter measurement
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge as would normally be acquired through completion of a
Bachelor's degree in
Health Physics, Physics, Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
Licensure by a federal or
District of Columbia agency to perform radiological safety assessments or
the ability to
become licensed/licensure eligible. Approximately 3-5 years of
progressively more
responsible job related experience in medical health physics. Ability to
interpret state and
federal regulations. Strong communication, interpersonal skills,
organizational and time
management required. Knowledge and experience with personal computers,
spreadsheets,
data base management systems and word processors. Experience performing
x-ray
equipment compliance testing is a plus.
RADIATION SAFETY TECHNICIAN
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or designee with the
implementation of the
radioactive waste management program.
Provides support to brachytherapy and radiopharmaceutical therapy
procedures.
Reviews receipt, shipment and delivery of all radioactive material
entering or leaving
the hospital
Maintenance of radiation survey instrument calibrations
Dose rate and contamination surveys
Maintains sealed source inventory and performs sealed source leak
testing.
Assists with collection and distribution of monitoring badges
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Knowledge as would normally be acquired through completion of an
Associate's degree with
increasingly responsible experience in a radiation safety program. A
Bachelor's degree in
science, health physics, nuclear engineering or related field is
preferred. Approximately 1
year of experience of health physics in a medical setting. Ability to
interpret state and federal
regulations. Strong communication, interpersonal sills, organizational
and time management
required. Knowledge and experience with personal computers, spreadsheets,
data base
management systems and word processors.
