When considering radiation protection for
radium-226, do not overlook the fact that the first daughter produce is
radon-222, a gas with a half-life of 3.8 days. This will pass through
a HEPA filter and when it decays to its solid daughter product, polonium-218, it
will contamination the immediate area. This decays into a series of
short-lived radioactive isotopes before eventually forming lead-210 with a
half-life of 19.4 years.
