RE: Physicians Speak Out Against Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Tra nsports Through Utah

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being ignorant

about a topic. There is a problem, however, when a

person ignorant about a topic is discussing why one

should oppose it and then try to get others to oppose

it.

Especially when such a course of action has a direct

bearing on our country's national energy policy, it is

simply inexcusable.

If Gephardt knew nothing about RAM transport then he

should have:

1.) Become informed before the vote (which everyone

knew was going to occur this week) AND to answer his

constituents' questions, or

2.) Sat on his hands and not say a word for or against

Yucca if he didn't have at least a cursory knowledge

of the project.

In either event, he should have had enough decency to

at least contact the appropriate people and asked them

about RAM transport and if that derailed train that

spilled coal all over the place would have put anyone

at risk if it were carrying a spent fuel cask.

Gephardt has chosen to remain in the dark and not

answer the question he keeps repeating. Folks, this

is not the first time he has talked about that "coal

spill" story. He has brought it up three times in the

past - according to my count.

I'd sure like to know why an elected Congressman

refuses to look into the matter and see for himself

why "if that had been nuclear waste" then there would

have been no release. If he has looked into the

matter and got the answer (that nothing would have

happened) then he is guilty of spreading misleeding

information. Where I come from, that is called a

bold-faced lie.

Either way, no matter how you cut it, he is either

talking about something he knows nothing about (which

is wrong) or he is simply lying. There is no other

possible answer, folks.

If anyone on this list is one of his constituents,

then PLEASE, by all means, pass this message on to

Gephardt's office. I am sure the American public

would love to hear his response. I have tried to send

it to him but cannot get an email addy since I am not

in his district.
