Re: Portable (Gamma???) Spectrometry Systems
Hi to the LIST (Radsafe):
This is from: jpreisig@aol.com .
Someone was asking about portable gamma spectrometry systems.
I once had the opportunity to use a (Canberra???) Inspector Portable
Gamma Spectrometry Counting System. I recommend it highly.
The system was used in connection with counting a plastic scintillator
detector which had been activated by neutrons in a particle accelerator
environment (neutron energies were from 20 MeV to about 400 MeV).
The counting system was used in non-portable detection mode.
Of course, the counting system came with considerable amounts of
printed matter and documents describing how to use the system. I read some
of these documents and was able to figure out how to set up the detection
system. The portable PC (i.e. labtop) was user friendly. The resulting
spectra were easy to use and were of high quality. I guess one could connect
a color printer (these days) to the labtop PC, and produce printed copies of
these spectra.
I am receiving no compensation for this endorsement (too bad). I think
a well-trained health physicist could set up this counting system, and then
other less well-trained people could use use the counting system fairly
readily.
Let's find those portable nuclear devices with such counting systems???
I'm sure such a counting system costs at least $1K to $2K or more. For the
real price, find the manufacturer's web-site.
Have a nice day....
