FW: "Hormetic" responses are intrinsic to biology

Yes, the values should be 60 mrem (0.6 mSv) from K-40 and a background dose

of 360 mrem (3.6 mSv). It has been a bad day, so far.

Jim,

I am not confirming the suppression of this experiment. I am asking if the

experiments were even performed, and so far I have not seen anything that

confirms or denies the existence of the studies. (Sorry, Jim, I really

can't take your word for it. You may also have been misinformed.) I am

glad to see you are asking others on this list, because it shows you really

do not have any definitive information, either.

It seems to me that you would also like to confirm these experiments, as

they would give strong support to the idea that low dose, low dose rates of

irradiation are essential for cellular function. However, I question if

these K-40 depleted experiments are is true. Why would a small dose

difference have such a significant affect on cell or animal viability. I

have a hard time believing the that 0.06 mSv/y we receive from the P-32 in

out body contributes any significant affect to us, when our annual

background dose, including radon, is about 360 mSv.

Where did you get your information that these experiments were done? Is all

the information anecdotal? If so, to me that puts it in the category of an

urban legend, like the HIV needle in the seat cushions. It seems

interesting you have some details about the production of the denatured

potassium, but no biological data.

Have a good weekend.

You confirm that publication of the Oak Ridge experiments was suppressed.

This covers more than the 1958 experiments reported by Charlie Willis, and

the K-39 dated 1962 that had been recovered from animal experiments sent to

Argonne in 1982 for the paramecia experiments. (Argonne also spent $75,000

for K-39 from Oak Ridge around 1983-4.)

Does anyone on this list have any more info?
