hands-on component  -  approximately 40% of the class time is spent in

PTP's laboratories gaining experience with the equipment and methods

discussed during the lecture portion of the course.

1.      The final version of NUREG 1556 Volume 9 "Program-Specific

Guidance about Medical Use Licenses" is now available at

2.      In October, the FDA revoked the Compliance Policy Guide (CPG)

5.      Revised versions of NRC Regulatory Guides 8.30 and 8.31 were

published in May (dealing with uranium recovery facilities).  They can

6.      The EPA released the newest version of the Citizen's Guide to

8.      For the time being, Eric Abelquist's book "Decommissioning

Health Physics - A Handbook for MARSSIM Users"  can be viewed chapter by

9.      Volume 1 of NUREG 1757 "Consolidated NMSS Decommissioning

Guidance - Decommissioning Process for Materials Licensees" has been

finalized. It can be viewed at

10.     The draft of Volume 2, "Characterization, Survey, and

Determination of Radiological Criteria" is available for comment at

11.     The NEI's task force dealing with license termination generated

a number of questions the answers to which were to appear in Appendix O

of Volume 2 of the draft NUREG 1757. For some reason, only some of the

answers appeared in the appendix. The remaining questions and answers

were published on page of Federal Register, Vol. 67, No. 187, Thursday,

12.     The NRC and EPA have finalized an MOU which will reduce the

extent of dual regulation affecting NRC licensees. In essence, it will

reduce EPA involvement in the process. Details can be found in the
