RE: DU talk
Mr. Rokke is not a trained HP and is certainly not "the former director of
the Army's depleted uranium cleanup program". I believe his degree is in
education. He did serve in the Gulf War - he was a reservist called to
active duty. He appears to have taken on DU as his personal agenda and is
convinced that it is an extremely hazardous substance causing an array of
diseases and death. Each of his claims have been carefully investigated and
in each case he has turned out to be incorrect. His statements are not
supported by facts nor are they supported by science or common sense.
However, he does provide an opposing view to the military, the HP community
and the medical community so he has become somewhat of a media darling
popping up every now and then with his opinions.
I personally think it would be very useful for anyone in the local chapter
of the HPS to be present especially if they are well verse in DU.

To this end, should the local chapter of the HPS ensure that the HPS is
represented at the "talk" to refute any mis-information, and provide
feedback to this list?

I have to point out that despite his claims, I've never seen evidence or
talked with anyone who can confirm that Dr. Rokke ever held any position
akin to "director of the Army's depleted uranium cleanup program." I've
talked with him, and the things he's saying about DU these days are
completely at odds with mankind's decades of experience working with natural
and enriched uranium, much less depleted uranium.
Purely (some of) my own opinions...
