Hmmm -- curious that the DU conference was "organized by Res publica, association for information."

....wonder if that's supposed to be a play on the well-known Rež Nuclear Research Institute (NRI) (see web site at http://www.nri.cz/ ).

I do not think so. "Res publica" is Latin and means - what a surprise! - "republic".
