Acceptable Confidence in Survey

Are there any guides (DOE/NRC) that address the acceptable confidence

levels for release surveys?

I believe that there is always a potential for a contaminated item/person

to be released as non-contaminated at levels slightly above the limit. For

instance, Eberline's manual on the PCM states that at a z factor of 1.28

there is a 90% confidence of detecting the Reliably Detectable Activity. I

interpret that imply that 10% of the time they will miss levels slightly

above the activity? Of course the higher the activity the less likely to

miss it.

Have the Feds published anything about what is acceptable?

Thanks
