Augusta Chronicle series on Russia's "Nuclear Cities"



For almost 50 years, the people at Savannah River Site and their unseen counterparts in the Soviet Union were locked in a struggle for nuclear superiority. Now these former enemies are working together to safeguard nuclear materials and find new missions for aging weapons plants. In December, The Augusta Chronicle sent Staff Photographer and Writer Jonathan Ernst to Russia to explore its progress on plutonium disposition and nuclear security.
