RE: No environmental review needed for former nuclear testing site



Several events in the history of the Santa Susanna Field Lab prompted the

recent site cleanups.  In June 1959, an irradiated fuel rod "exploded" in a

hot cell.  The following month, 10 of 43 fuel assemblies were "damaged"

during core thermal transient in a sodium-cooled reactor sponsored by

Southern Cal Edison.  Another event occurred in 1964 with 80% core meltdown
