Re: respiratory tract dose (HP vs. IH approach)
May 14
Near the end of his May 13 message, Jerry Cohen wrote, "BTW, in a recent
radsafe posting, the question was asked, "What is so special about
radiation that that justifies the need for an ICRP, NCRP, UNSCEAR, NRC,
and the plethora of regulations, and restrictive requirements?"
The answer is "nothing." Nothing is so special about radiation. The
regulatory burden has to do with fear engendered by THE BOMB; and power.
The regulatory agencies have been given the power to regulate to the nth
degree, and they are going to regulate or destroy someone in the process.
They are drunk with their own power. The NRC needs to be put on an
unusually short leash. Congress could do it, but the courage to do so is,
shall we say, lacking.
