Position Overview: 

The responsibilities of the CancerCare Manitoba Health Physicist are to maintain the radiation safety programs at CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) facilities, for the Gamma Knife project of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and for external agencies in accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), the specific conditions of respective nuclear substance and radiation device licenses, and facility policies.  The scope of accountability, authority and duties for this position includes: 



* reviewing radiation exposure levels; suspending any or all operations if a hazardous situation involving radioactive material or radiation emitting device arises that compromises the safety of patients, staff or the general public; 

* ensuring records are maintained to Canadian Nuclear Safety and Control Regulations and respective facility's standards; acting as a resource contact on internal radiation safety matters; representing the respective facility on radiation safety matters; ensuring that an appropriate radiation safety training program is developed and implemented;

*  Providing radiation safety programs, using the model for CCMB, to other entities according to contractual conditions established by CCMB; developing a radiation safety program operating budget; providing teaching services to the School of Radiation Therapy, the CCMB academic program and the respective facility's in-house radiation safety training programs; providing consultative support to the Manitoba Radiation Protection Services x-ray compliance program and CCMB research programs; and performing other responsibilities consistent with the knowledge and training, as required.



Education/Experience: 



MSc in Physics (Health Physics/Medical Physics);  BSc  in Physics, (Health Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering) with relevant experience in radiation safety as it pertains to activities licensed by the CNSC; Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered for this position.
