Nuclear Emergency Planning: The New Face of Emergency Planning  Terrorism, Security, and the Public

Scholarships Available: This program is supported by a grant from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, which offers tuition scholarships reserved primarily for state and local public employees.

Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, emergency planning has become a more urgent concern than ever before. With major changes underway from both government and industry, emergency planners and emergency response team members face a host of new challenges in an era of unprecedented public scrutiny. This year’s offering of Nuclear Emergency Planning: The New Face of Emergency Planning  Terrorism, Security, and the Public will respond to these important developments. 

Whether you are new or experienced, from a private facility or from government, this program will give you valuable insights that you can put to immediate use in your daily work.

Share your questions and problems with industry leaders from academia, nuclear utilities, the NRC, FEMA, Homeland Security and state agencies, as well as with emergency
planning colleagues.

WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND
Learn, or be refreshed in, some basic principles and regulatory requirements for responding to a radiological emergency, the changing roles and rules from Federal and State agencies regarding emergency preparedness for terrorist activities and Homeland Security, managing terrorist incidents involving radioactive materials, lessons learned in communicating with the media and public, and updates on emergency preparedness issues for nuclear utilities.  Interact and learn from other emergency planners.

SCHOLARSHIPS
A limited number of scholarships are available for qualified individuals. Please send a letter to The Scholarship Committee, along with your registration form, explaining your present professional responsibilities and why you feel you qualify for a scholarship. Application deadline is July 22, 2003.
**IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS**
 There is a $50 minimum co-pay
 Along with the registration form, each scholarship applicant must send a letter or note with all of the following information:
Your title and job duties
How this program would help you do your duties for your organization, and why you and your organization need this training
How much scholarship money you need in order to attend

LOCATION AND ACCOMMODATIONS
The program takes place at the Harvard School of Public Health, located in the heart of the Harvard Longwood Campus in Boston. Public transportation is readily available to the city's many shopping districts, museums and restaurants.
