More on the subject, Australia's obviously not quite as gullible as

California...This is an excerpt from an Australian Senate hearing on the subject (the

entire transcript is at: > www.aph.gov.au/hansard/senate/commttee/s4496.pdf):

"Senator CHAPMAN-The Sutherland Shire Council brought us a witness, a

supposed expert-it was Mr Daniel Hirsch-who claimed that he had been an adviser to

the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. I understand the regulatory commission

has confirmed that that has never been the

case. Are you aware of any qualifications that Mr Hirsch has regarding

nuclear technology?

Prof. Garnett-I think we have attempted to address paragraph

163 of the supplementary. We have asked the US regulatory commission and the

inquiry is with the commission. It failed to disclose any instances where he

acted under their request as an expert. There is no doubt that Mr. Hirsch

has given problems as part of community groups and others in hearings regarding

his concerns about particular facilities, or the community's facilities. As

far as we have been told, he has not acted on behalf of the US regulatory

commission.

Senator CHAPMAN-Do you have any knowledge as to his qualifications?

Prof. Garnett-I have seen his CV. I think his CV is publicly available. He is

an activist of a kind. He does not have a straight science qualification, but

he has worked in areas of nuclear interest in a public and activist role for

some years."
