It is also amazing that they have an accelerator at Brookhaven right down the road in NY and no one seems to have directed the "nuclear safety" finger that way. I decommissioned Shoreham and the local rumor was that there were gentlemen in trench coats with crooked noses, wearing fedoras behind the whole Shoreham evolution.

It never ceases to amaze me that the people of NY and surrounding area complain about the electrical system, prices, etc.  These people let their NYC Mayor shutdown Shoreham (~850 Megawatts) in the name of perceived safety.



 



I wonder how this latest mishap would have played out with more power on the grid?
