SCCHPS Meeting - Thursday, September 25, 2003 @ UCLA Faculty Center
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The next meeting of the Southern California Chapter of
the Health Physics Society is scheduled for Thursday,
September 25, 2003. The speaker will be George J.
Vargo, Ph.D., CHP.
The title of Dr. Vargo.s presentation is: Medical
Consequences of the Chernobyl Accident: t+17y
Abstract:
The medical and public health effects of the April
1986 Chernobyl accident have been the subject of wild
and sometimes absurd claims. This presentation
reviews the accident, its radiological consequences,
and known medical effects including acute effects,
thyroid cancer, leukemia, and teratogenesis. The
difference between projected and observed health
effects may have significant implications for human
health risk estimates. Results of the UNSCEAR-2000
report are included.
The location of the meeting is the UCLA Faculty

Dinner menu items are:
1. Rigatoni Pasta with sautéed artichoke hearts, red
bell peppers, white wine, parmesan.
2. Stuffed breast of chicken with asparagus, lemon and
parmesan cheese risotto.
3. New York Steak.
All served with garden salad, rolls and coffee or tea.
The dinner price will be $25 per person. There will be
a bar. Fee collection will be at the door.
Here is the tentative schedule.
Door open/social hour: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Dinner: 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Speaker: 7:30 PM
