Activity Limits for Use of Radionuclides in Various Types of Workplaces
As usual, looking for some info and help. The Rad Health Handbook contains
a table which breaks radionuclides down into four (or five) groups based on
radiotoxicity. Limits are placed on the amount of activity depending on the
particular workplace used - benchtop, hood, glovebox and modifying factors
(dry/dusty ops, storage, etc.).
What is the basis for the activity levels? Are they based on the ALI of
each (seems not, since U-234 is consider very highly toxic and U-235/U-238
are low) or what? Will working at the activity levels with the controls
given calculate to one ALI per year? I do not have a copy of "Guidelines
for the Radiation Protection of Workers in Industry (Ionizing Radiations)"
which appears to be the source document.
Thank you,
