Re: Dirty Bombs & Radiophobia
Radiophobia is a funny sort of syndrome. It is most prevalent when somebody
else has to pay to support it. But when, for example, home owners are told
about the horrors of radon seeping into their basements, most are relatively
unconcerned. EPA has been beating the "What you don't know CAN hurt you"
drum for many years, but there is still no sign of panic in the general
public. Perhaps if property owners are told that in the event of a dirty
bomb detonation in the neighborhood, the cost of decontamination would be
borne by the owners, the predicted panic would never occur. Adam Smith's
"Invisible Hand" of self-interest may be the secret to winning the war on
terrorism!
