Re: FW: The Sun, The Wind and Nuclear Power?
"ANFO" means "ammonium nitrate fuel oil", an inexpensive blasting agent commonly used in mining. The ammonium nitrate is in the form of small spheres called "prills" and about 6% diesel oil by weight makes up the mixture.
The product is relatively "safe", requiring a high explosive primer to initiate detonation in a mining borehole.

What is an "ANFO bomb?" I don't understand the acronym.
And while we are on the subject, since we have a number of non-U. S. RADSAFErs, and a number of old fogies like me who use words rather than acronyms, could we please limit the use of acronyms to the well-understood ones, like agency names (EPA, NRC)or at least write out the acronym the first time it is used?
Thanks
Ruth
