Shouldn't have sent off that e-mail as a closer read would have made it

clear that it was an ANSI standard being discussed.  I largely withdraw the

comment.  And I know working group members are not paid, I am on a working

group for training of users of survey instruments.



If the standard has been issued then it should be for sale via the ANSI web

site and whatever professional organization wrote it.

Yes, they should be shared, but one can not share copyrighted 

documents. Someone has to pay for the various programs that support 

the standards development process. 



I can assure you that as Chair, HPSSC, neither I nor the other 

members, or the Working Groups members are paid. Our time is all 

donated. However, the HPS (in the case of N13 and N43) support the 

standards process, and, DOES make available electronic copies of HPS 

standards FREE to HPS members. Non-Members do pay a small fee, of 

between $10 and $20. A meagre fee.



I can not speak for how ANSI charges for their standards (non-HPS 

supported) or how N42 charges.



Yes, standards should be shared, but this must be done legally.
