The ANSI-HSSP Newsletter is distributed to the participants on the 

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Homeland Security 

Standards Panel (HSSP). It provides homeland security related 

information pulled from the headlines and submitted by ANSI-HSSP 

participants. Participants are encouraged to submit information to 

the ANSI-HSSP Secretary that they feel would be of interest to fellow 

ANSI-HSSP participants.

NEWS and INFORMATION



ANSI-HSSP Workshops to Develop Recommendations for 9-11 Commission

Representatives from industry and all critical infrastructure sectors 

are invited to participate in finalizing the recommendations on 

private sector emergency preparedness and business continuity. For 

further information, please contact the ANSI-HSSP Secretary.



Working Group on Private Sector Preparedness Seeking Input on 

Incentives and Strategies to Promote Private Sector Emergency 

Preparedness

The Working Group on Private Sector Preparedness, a group of 

organizations that have voluntarily come together under the auspices 

of the Greater New York Safety Council to promote emergency 

preparedness in the private sector and provide recommendations to the 

9-11 Commission, has asked for comments from ANSI-HSSP participants 

on its initial draft recommendations. To submit comments, please

DHS Adopts Radiological and Nuclear Detection American National 

Standards 

At a press conference at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the 

U.S. Department of Homeland Security.s Science and Technology 

division announced the adoption of four American National Standards 

designed to assist federal agencies as well as state and local 

officials in procurement decisions related to radiological and 

nuclear detection equipment.



DHS Adopts First Responder Equipment American National Standards 

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Under Secretary Charles McQueary 

and Under Secretary Mike Brown announced the DHS adoption of five 

American National Standards for personal protective equipment for 

first responders. The standards were developed by the National Fire 

Protection Association (NFPA) and subsequently approved by ANSI.



Protected Critical Infrastructure Information (PCII) Program 

Established

The PCII Program is designed to encourage private industry and others 

with knowledge about our critical infrastructure to share 

confidential, proprietary, and business sensitive information about 

this critical infrastructure with the Government. The Department will 

use PCII information in pursuit of a more secure Homeland, focusing 

primarily on analyzing and securing critical infrastructure and 

protected systems; developing risk assessments and vulnerabilities; 

and assisting with recovery.
