I certainly agree about the controversy surrounding

the use of KI.  That is why the NRC was reluctant to

make it manditory for emergency response.  (Their

recommendations were that if should be considered by

licensees.  My impression is that the current push to

distribute KI was pushed upon them.)  



If you look at the Recommendations of tne National

Resarch Council report on page 5,

KI is not recommend for all individuals.  It should be

given to those at the greatest risk, i.e., "infants,

children, and pregnant and lactating women."  



My feeling is that the distribution of KI distracts

the public from the need to protect yourselves from

the other fallout components.  As one of the

co-authors or the this report, I assume you considered

this issue.
