Request for information

RADSAFErs,

In June this year there will be a meeting of the Austrian Radiation

Protection Society on the topic "Management of the consequences of a

radiation accident or a nuclear catastrophe", which will be accompanied by

an exercise using helicopter screening, sampling of soil and measurement of

samples.

Since I am a member of the board of the Society, I have been asked to

contribute with a paper on the provisions in the USA for terroristic

attacks.

My presentation has to be very short - 10 to 15 minutes - therefore I would

be happy to receive any hints for articles on the web, which would be a kind

of summary regarding the above topics. This would include information about

the new department for homeland security (including structure, duties,

number of personnel, etc.), scenarios for (nuclear) weapons of mass

destruction, RDD's and the question of vulnerability of nuclear

installations to terroristic acts, information about control of harbours and

airports, imported goods etc.. Especially information about costs of

preparedness would be very much appreciated (budget of DHS, cost of

equipment installed at harbours, borders and airports, mobile units).

I know that much information was distributed during debates on RADSAFE, but

to sort it out and especially to distinguish between facts and hearsay might

not be easy. Therefore I would appreciate web-sites with official statements

and numbers. The short time for presentation has to be overcome by suitable

graphs and tables.

Whenever I had a question to RADSAFE before I received very valuable

replies - I hope it will be the same this time! Thank you for your

informations and your help beforehand.

Franz
