Ba-133/I-131 calibration procedures
Greetings radsafe; I'm a first time poster, long time lurker.
Does anyone have any experience using a Barium 133 rod source instead of
Iodine 131 for the calibration of scintillation counting systems used for
thyroid bioassays? Specifically, has anyone ever adjusted the window so that
the correction factor is essentially 1. It seems that due to compton
scattering of the 637 keV photon from Iodine 131, this could theoretically
be done. Are there any disadvantages to doing it this way? Also does anyone
know of any ANSI standards that deal with using Ba-133 as a substitute for
Iodine?
Thanks for your help,
Daniel Samson, CHP
