Ladies and gentlemen (for that's what I think/hope the vast majority 

of you are):



I have been mostly lurking on the list for several years now, but I 

have to toss in my two cents on this Niagara thing.  There are three 

things I'd like you to consider.



First, do not assume that Mr. Ricciuti is no longer on the list just 

because you saw the "unsubscribe" message.  If I recall correctly, 

sending an unsubscribe post to the regular list posting address does 

not remove you from the list (am I correct, Mr. Moderator?)  You may 

think he's gone, but he may very well be seeing everything we send. 

And even if he's not, he can drop back in and grab the archives 

practically any time he wants.



Second, Mr. R. is not anonymous.  He is using his real name, and in 

five minutes using a Google search you can learn rather a lot about 

him and his work/hobby/crusade (whatever he considers it to be).  I 

didn't come across any details of his education and training, but I 

can tell you that he's not stupid.



Third, and most importantly, can we please keep the mud-slinging and 

personal jabs off the list?  Franz (and others), I know that Mr. R. 

has a talent for flame-baiting and getting on your nerves.  If you 

want to complain to your colleagues privately, that's fine, but you 

make us all look bad when you start tossing personal insults back at 

him on the list.  From past posts and private e-mails I have 

exchanged with several of you (including you, Franz), I know you to 

be intelligent, gracious, professional people.  Please try to 

maintain your temper, even when Mr. R. is being (intentionally, I 

think) a pain in the butt



For those of you who are wondering "Who is this guy and where does he 

get off making comments like this?", I am the Incident Response 

Coordinator for the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation 

Protection, and I have a LOT of experience dealing with activists and 

semi-rational irate citizens.  I KNOW how hard it is to deal with 

some of these folks, but I also know that it's my job to keep my 

opinions to myself and keep my communications with them professional. 

I'm a Scorpio with a quick trigger and a wicked nasty streak, so it's 

not always easy, but I manage.  Those of you who can't reply to Mr. 

R. (and those like him) without being personally insulting should 

simply stop replying.  At very least, if you're going to flame 

someone, don't drag your agency or employer into it by sending your 

business tag with the flame post.



BTW, you will note that I am posting here as a civilian, because this 

is not Bureau business.  Had this been relevant to my job, you'd have 

gotten the full Bureau sig block (including the HIPAA warning). 

Anyone who wants my credentials is welcome to ask, preferably 

off-list.  If you want to flame me, I suggest you do it OFF-LIST so 

as not to embarrass yourself in front of the community. <g>
