The Bureau of Hazardous Waste and Radiation Management of the New York
State Department of Environmental Conservation has an opening for an
Environmental Radiation Specialist 1 at its Albany, NY office, and
welcomes applications from qualified applicants. Duties may include
evaluation of discharges and disposals of radioactive material to the
environment, environmental radiation surveys, sampling and analysis, and
inspections of facilities discharging or disposing of radioactive
materials to the environment.

Current civil service base salary for this position: $40,850
Current top of grade for this position: $52,114

Note: A civil service list exists for this position; however, if there
are fewer than three interested individuals on the list, the Department
may make a provisional appointment, pending the next offering of the
civil service exam (not expected before 2006).
Minimum Qualifications for Provisional Appointment: bachelor's degree
in biological, environmental or physical sciences or in radiological or
nuclear engineering. In addition, you must have had at least two years
of professional experience in radiological science, radiological
engineering or nuclear engineering.
