Job Opening - Health Physicist
Wayne State University's Office of Environmental Health and Safety has the
following position available.
Health Physicist II Position
Salary $55,000 - $65,000 - salary is determined based on education and
years of experience
Duties:
* Performance, coordination and supervision of various duties related
to the radiation protection and control program of the University.
* Supervise technical personnel in related areas.
* Surveillance of all facilities using radioactive materials and
radiation generating equipment.
* Maintenance of all records pertaining to the receipt, transfer, and
usage of radioactive material including a computerized radioisotope
inventory control program.
* Calibration of all instruments designed to detect and measure
ionizing radiation.
* Leak testing of all sealed sources of radioactive material as
prescribed by regulatory agencies.
* Maintenance of the radioactive waste control program.
* Collection and assay of biological and environmental samples for
qualitative and quantitative determination of radioisotope contamination.
* Maintenance of the personnel monitoring program established to
determine exposure of radiation workers to ionizing radiation.
* In-depth investigation on the cause and effect of any incident
involving sources of ionizing radiation and determination of the corrective
action to be taken.
Qualifications:
* The qualified candidate must have a bachelor's degree in health
physics, or related science field and 3 years experience in a radiation
safety program. Master degree in health physics or certification as a
health physicist is preferred.
* Experience working in a radiation safety group responsible for a
broad scope license with research activities, x-ray safety program, laser
safety program, and waste management is a essential.
* Knowledge of rules and regulations - NRC, DOT, EPA
* Experience with Microsoft Access
* Valid driver license.
