The linear observations of H.J. Muller (SCIENCE 66: 84-87, 1927) are not 

applicable to radiation carcinogenesis. New research by Koana et al. 

(RADIATION RESEARCH 161, 391-396, 2004) shows that somatic cell mutations 

from ionizing radiation exposures are non-linear and even suggests a 

hormesis effect.
