Re: Lithuania Shuts Down Part Of Its Only Nuclear Reactor

Re: $100 million nuclear waste capping project to be complete in 2006 -

It's rare when I get quoted in a piece that goes out on the AP wire! At

least the writer accurately represented my comments.

Re: Tsunami toll is huge, but not the deadliest event on record -

Another natural disaster that caused similar widespread death and

destruction was the 1883 catastophically explosive eruption of Krakatoa

(in the strait west of Java) and resulting tsunami. An estimated 40,000

people were killed, a huge percentage of the population in the coastal

regions of the Indian Ocean. The sound of the explosion was HEARD

thousands of miles away, and barometers around the world recorded the

shock wave which traveled around the globe SEVEN times. For a truly

fascinating account, read "Krakatoa" by Simon Winchester. After reading

it, I find it difficult to believe that there was so little concern

about tsunamis in the Indian Ocean.
