[ RadSafe ] Radiation Doses to Luggage

There are generally two types of scanners.  The one
for carry-on baggage is similar to a diagnostic fluoro
x-ray unit, which scans or takes a image.  Usually the
exposure rates are low, and the color correlates with
the density of the object. 

For checked baggage, i.e., going into the cargo hold,
the units are like CT units and generate large doses. 
 These units will fog photographic film.
