The photo-multiplier tubes of different counters will have different eficiencies of counting, and the way the machine processes the info. will also affect efficiency. We have a new Packard that counts 3-H with almost twice the efficiency of our old machine, and can count 51-Cr at almost 50% efficiency (better than a gamma counter).
